Formed in 1942, following the United States' entry into World War II, the Office of Strategic Services (former CIA) is estimated to have produced 5,753 maps, which, like Gaihōzu maps, were eventually distributed to libraries throughout the United States, including our Gould Library.

Carleton has about 70 OSS maps of Japan.
